Toshihide Matsui and Arata Onozawa battle through the second qualifying round – Toyota Challenger
Toshihide Matsui outmuscles Takeshi Endo 6-3, 6-2
Ranked 471st in the South African ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour Rankings, Toshihide Matsui, successfully journeyed through the second qualifying round of the Dunlop World Challenge tennis tournament
held at the carpet courts of Toyota, Japan. He gave a predictable defeat to the lower ranked compatriot, Takeshi Endo. He consolidated his victory 6-3, 6-2 on the eve of Saturday.
The Japanese veteran, Matsui, commenced the match with his powerful serves and consistently maintained his pace the entire time. Immediately, the score line levelled down to 1-all in the second game and the competition stayed tough
for the initial part of the opener. Matsui cashed the lone serve break opportunity in the sixth game and skilfully maintained his lead. Eventually, he terminated the set with a 6-3 score.
In the second set, 20-year-old, Endo, was unable to hold his initial serve and this gave his senior a chance to prove his true potential. The 5 ft 11 in Japanese rival snatched the initial two games without facing any resistance.
This time around, the Japanese junior was unable to stand tall against the pressure of his competitor as he bestowed a serve break in the seventh game. Matsui swiftly pocketed his entire serves and sustained his consistency by pocketing away all the remainder
games until the end. He concluded the set with a 6-2 win.
Arata Onozawa prevails over Masaki Sasai 6-3, 6-4
The right-hander, Arata Onozawa, successfully defeated his fellow citizen, Masaki Sasai, in the second qualifying round played at the carpet courts of Japan. The local challenger consolidated his win 6-3, 6-4 on Saturday.
The 24-year-old, Onozawa started the opening set with a strong resolve to dominate his contender. Nonetheless, both the players held their serves for the major time of the set and gave each other a tough battle. The score lined
down twice in the fourth to 2-all and the sixth game to 3-all respectively. He cashed his rival’s serve in the eighth game and beautifully concluding the set with a 6-3 score lead.
In the second set, the winning table started to turn when Sasai preserved his initial serve and gave his challenger a tough battle. The set followed a similar pattern as before as Onozawa gradually constructed his momentum terminating
the set with a 6-4 win.
