Toshihide Matsui dusts away Kaichi Uchida in the final qualifier round – Toyota Challenger 2012 CH
Ranked 471st in the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour Ranking, Toshihide Matsui, featured an all-Japanese affair in the final qualifying round of the 2012 Dunlop World Challenge Tennis Tournament on
Sunday. He penned down his victory 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 against his junior, Kaichi Uchida, to advance into the first round at the carpet court tournament taking place in Toyota, Japan.
The Japanese qualifier kindled his spark to prevail over his rival in one hour and 53 minutes. The contestants previously encountered each in the first round of the Japan F4. Matsui bagged away the victory in a three-set nail-biter.
The right-hander Japanese senior secured the initial serve but he was unable to continue his lead. Uchida jumped forward to grab the opportunity and broke into lead. He beautifully swiped away the front, as his powerful serves
were the critical point in his success. He cashed onto his challenger’s serve in the third game and did not give up even once. Matsui was unable to put forward a good show and started to become inactive as the match progressed. Resultantly, Uchida bagged the
opener with a 6-3 lead.
In the second set, 18-year-old Uchida was unable to preserve his former success and commenced at a very sloppy note. The 5ft 11in Japanese competitor smartly clinched the first two games without facing any real challenge. However,
the Japanese junior levelled down the score line to 3-all in the sixth game. This proved to be a critical hit point for Matsui, who then made quickly in roads, dissolving his opponent’s serve in the ninth game and avenged the equalizer with a 6-4 score line.
The situation continued to favour 34-year-old Matsui, who glided forward with the preserving the same momentum and cashed on Uchida’s serve in the third game. The two participants fought a tough battled in the initial part of the
decider, as the both desperately wanted to bag away the final victory. Nonetheless, the Japanese senior manifested his greater experience and summed up his 6-4 win by quickly securing the last two games.
