hey i live in Maine, USA. and i was wondering if i would be able to see the total eclipse in the beginning of august.

would i be able to see it?

and about what time would it be?

  1. No, you will have to travel to the NW Passage or Greenland to see it from the closest area to Maine.


  2. Hi Camden.

    Where you are, you'll see nothing.  You could drive to Madawaska and you'd see a little of the partial eclipse.

    The eclipse in Madawaska starts at 5:15 a.m.,Eastern Daylight Time, when the sun rises with 13% of its disc eclipsed.  The eclipse then rapidly ends, and by 5:30 it's all over.  Remember, you'd need a clear view of the northeastern horizon to see even this much.

    I saw where one writer said that you'll see a lot of the partial eclipse from Camden, but this is completely wrong.  None of the August 1 solar eclipse, either total or partial, can be seen from Camden.

  3. Camden, Maine, will not be able to see the eclipse.  It will be too far north for you.  Here's a map with the total track:

  4. You should see a partial eclipse.  Go to NE Canada for a bit of total eclipse.
