1. How much does your insurance generally increase if you've had an accident (2nd at fault in 5 years) if it is (a) not total loss and (b) if it is total loss?

2. In Virginia, what percentage of the car's value must the repairs be for it to be considered a total loss? And how is the value of the car determined?

3. If I keep my car from a total loss and get a salvage title, what do I have to do to be able to drive it again? Will I get any money from the insurance for keeping it? What are the disadvantages of having a salvaged title?

  1. You can easily check how your quotes will change after the accidents in internet, for example here: http://autoinsurance.maclenet.com

  2. S, I suggest you locate a nearby car insurance agent to assist you. Since I live in Nebraska I can't recommend anyone in Virginia, but here is an online resource that can help you. http://www.autoadviceonline.com/Free-Aut...

    Good Luck.

  3. Probably best to have a rest.looks like you can get some ideas here.http://car-insurance.online-tips.info/ca...

  4. Kelley blue book http://www.kbb.com/ is the most popular source for determining a car's value.  They list 3 numbers: what the dealer will buy it for, what the dealer will sell it for (lots more!) and a typical private-seller price that's in between.

It depends how damaged it is.  When the insurance calls it totaled and pays off, they "own" the car.   They either call it "salvage" or "unrepairable", usually the latter.

Unrepairable means the car can NEVER be repaired and licensed in Virginia.

Salvage means it would have to be repaired and certified

Most likely they'll tow the car away and you'll never see it again.  Get your valuables out.
