  2. I'd have to say none of the above. Education, family planning, contraception, and positions of power all lower the birth rate but they don't have an impact on the fertility rate. Women have fewer children through avoidance of pregnancy, not through an inability to become pregnant.

    As far as I'm aware lifestyle is the biggest fertility killer in women. Obesity, smoking and drinking are at the top, STDs and malnutrition also play a big part.

    Abortions have been known to harm a woman's ability to conceive and carry to term, but not significantly in most cases, and the impact on women as a whole is only really noticeable in countries such as China where a woman might have multiple abortions in less than perfect surroundings.
