Total watering ban?

I have heard on the radio that they are about to ban even commercial watering. Lake Lanier in north Georgia has only 117 days of water reserve left. That is a staggering thought!

They are banning water because I guess we are importing too much water from other places of the world. If we have too much water, how are we suppose to export it out when no one possibly needs it? But to stop the commercial watering is weird...

I live in Georgia, and I still see people using a lot of water. They aren't supposed to, and we haven't had rain in a LONG time. They said that in two or so months that there will be almost NO water left. If you drive by a lake, there is barely any water left.

Maybe if the population had started cutting back months ago they wouldn't need a total ban now. That is a common problem in America...the "use it until it's gone mentality." I fully expect that we will deal with peak oil and global warming the same way. We will keep on using all the oil we can get and adding to global warming until the last drop is gone.

I live in Long Beach, CA and the city has started extreme water conservation measures. We rely on the Colorado River and snow in the Sierras to supply the 15 million+ people that live in Southern California. I'm sure you have seen on the news that we are also in a record drought. The city has created a website where you can report on businesses and homes watering when they shouldn't be or letting their water run down the street.

I agree with the conservation measures. The thing I wonder the most is why aren't they going to build a water desalination plant? We are right on the Pacific Ocean.

That is what happens when there is a bad drought. But the drought will end some day. They all do. And they usually end in flooding rains. Houses floating down rivers kind of flooding.

I did not realize the water ban in Georgia.  I live in Canada and we have experienced water surpluses for the last few years now, we have a ton of freshwater.  I live in Australia for a year and they had similar water restrictions, I found it strange to live in a country where water was not readily available.  I always knew Australia had little water, but we in Canada take our water for granted and it seems like some parts of the states are experiencing water shortages.  Scary living in places like that, eveything depends on water....livestock, agriculture, drinking water, d**n near everything.  What is happening to the prices of food?  Or is that particular water source not used for agriculture.

Usually rains more in the winter doesn't it?   There's only a 4-5 day supply of food in most cities at one time, yet no one is worried.   I was living in Maryland around 1999 when they had a severe drought.   Factories that used lots of water figured out how to conserve without going out of business and some actually saved a bunch of money.   Something good might come out of having a shortage now.
