Toto Thimba Jr reminds us of the early years of the great Tiger Woods. This young man has just entered the gates of the golf universe and his ambitions are clearly visible through his stroke play.
His aggressive swings are already being talked about among the professionals.
Recently, Toto took on the Investec Royal Swazi Sun Open and led the pre-qualifying round with his best play by far.
He had confidence dominating his game, which showed in his early strokes, along with his thunderous swings and impressive birdies that were worth watching.
This event was being played with the new and modified stable ford scoring format, which counts score points based on the number of strokes that are taken, rather than counting the total number of strokes. Under these new rules the aim is to achieve the highest
score.
This new format gives more aggressiveness and pace to the play, which has added to the game of golf in many ways.
“I love this scoring system, because you play aggressive golf, I like that,” said Toto. His play was crafty and swift.
He scored nine birdies and put a cherry on the cake with an eagle on the 12th. Towards the end, he was six points clear of Allan Michell, who is second in the qualifying table.
The best aspect of his play was his comfort and resilience during his play at the Swazi Open. He took many risks during his stroke play that earned him his birdies and his confidence, which stood by him throughout the play.
He seemed happy and at ease while describing his overall feeling of the play. “The course is looking beautiful and the greens are running nicely, I’ve got a lot of confidence and I’m here to win the tournament,” said Toto.
The 26-year-old seems a tough contender in the coming years. His play contains the colours of a next generation icon.
He can rule the world of golf if he maintains his standard of play and periodically crafts and improves it to an all new level that has never been witnessed before him.
