Toto Wolff believes Pastor Maldonado has extraordinary talent – Formula 1 news
Williams’ executive director, Toto Wolff has said that Pastor Maldonado is a very competent driver and has got extraordinary talent and skills.
Maldonado is currently standing at 11th place in the drivers’ championship with 29 points along with the record championship holder, Michael Schumacher of Mercedes. Additionally, he is ahead of Paul di Resta of Force India and is behind Kamui
Kobayashi of Sauber.
Moreover, he has only been able to score points in two races which include his amazing maiden victory in the Spanish GP and 8th place finish in the Chinese GP.
However, he has not been able to score even a single point in all the other grands prix as he struggled with the lack of pace. Furthermore, he has retired in two of the first eleven races.
Even though, the Venezuelan driver is facing immense difficulties in finding out his true form at present, nevertheless, Wolff said that they have full faith in the abilities of their driver.
In addition, the Austrian said that Maldonado is an intelligent driver while he said that he feels pleased to work with such a gifted and capable athlete.
“Pastor is a smart guy,” Wolff tells Motorsport Total. “I prefer to work with a guy who has extraordinary talent and an extraordinary base speed but who needs to smooth that out, rather than the other way round.”
Besides, he said that they are all set to provide their belligerent driver with everything which he may need in order to improve his performance in the forthcoming races. He also said that they are extremely confident that he will soon find his pace back
and will continue to achieve better results in the upcoming races.
“He works well by himself and we then try to create the environment around that. I am convinced that it will work smoothly and that Pastor will succeed - and soon,” he added.
Presently, the British team is at 7th place in the constructors’ standings ahead of Force India. Above and beyond, they surely need their drivers to perform well so as to be able to secure a competitive place in the midfield in this year’s championship.
