Toto Wolff believes Pastor Maldonado will learn from his mistakes – Formula 1 news
Williams’ executive director, Toto Wolff has backed up their driver, Pastor Maldonado who has received a lot of criticism due to his aggressive driving style and believes that he will learn from his mistakes.
Maldonado secured an incredible victory in the Spanish Grand Prix after claiming his maiden pole position and scored a race win for the British team after quite a long time. Moreover, he is the first ever Venezuelan driver who has won a race in F1.
However, he has struggled in most of the races and has been criticised very much over his hostile driving due to which he has faced many grid penalties in the season so far.
Nevertheless, Wolff spoke in favour of their driver and said that the 27-year-old has got some amazing driving skills. Furthermore, he said that Maldonado is a very nice person while he said that he is belligerent only because it is indeed a prerequisite
of the sport in which the competition is very tight.
“He's got a huge raw talent, he is extremely fast. And he is a nice guy, which is important because you need to be socially competent to function in that environment,” he said.
In addition, he said that their driver will learn from the ongoing difficulties which he is facing right now while he gave the example of the three-time world champion, Ayrton Senna who used to drive harshly during the beginning of his career and later became
arguably the best driver in the history of F1.
“But he is an intelligent guy and he will learn from it. He understands that he is in difficult situation, but he will rise above it. Of that I am 100 percent sure. Remember Ayrton Senna in beginning? Nobody wanted to touch him. In those days there weren't
many grid penalties, but had there been he would probably have had to go back 10 places on grid many times,” he added.
Over and above, the Austrian said that they are confidently looking forward to perform well in the Singapore GP this weekend which is going to be held at Marina Bay Street Circuit.
