Toto Wolff downplays possibility of Mercedes’ back-to-back victories in Canada – Formula 1 news
Mercedes executive director, Toto Wolff has downplayed the possibility of their back-to-back victories in the 2013 Canadian Grand Prix and said that they are just looking forward to evaluate their progress in Montreal.
Nico Rosberg of the Brackley based squad showed an amazing performance in the Monaco GP and successfully claimed the second victory of his F1 career after securing his third consecutive pole position of the season. On the other hand, his teammate, Lewis
Hamilton delivered an incredible qualifying performance and secured second grid slot for the race. However, he lost two positions in the race because of the safety car incident and could only secure 4th place finish.
Wolff has said that they have enjoyed a wonderful weekend in Monte Carlo, but it doesn’t mean they are going to win the forthcoming race too.
“We enjoyed a fantastic weekend in Monaco but, as I have said before, yesterday's home runs don't win tomorrow's games,” said the Mercedes executive director.
In addition, he stated that they have set realistic targets for the next race and are hoping to perform well in Canada.
“We will be heading to Montreal this week with realistic expectations about what we can achieve. The high-speed circuit will definitely suit our Mercedes-Benz engine,” he explained.
Besides, he asserted that they are trying their best to improve their race pace in the season ahead so as to be able to attain competitive points with consistency. He also said that they are eying to assess their progress, which they have made in the season
so far, in the approaching race.
“Our car has been on pole position for the last four races, which shows our basic speed, so the focus in that time has been on improving our performance on Sunday afternoons,” he added. “This weekend will give us a more representative indication of how much
progress we have made.”
The Silver Arrows are presently standing at fourth place in the constructors’ championship with 109 points. Additionally, they are behind their main rival, Lotus and ahead of Force India.
Let’s see how they perform at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on June 9, 2013.
