Toto Wolff insists Mercedes have full confidence in Lewis Hamilton – Formula 1 News
Mercedes motorsport chief, Toto Wolff, has said that they have full confidence in their driver, Lewis Hamilton, who has performed right up to their expectations in the 2013 Formula 1 season so far.
Hamilton performed impressively well in the Canadian Grand Prix and managed to secure third podium finish after taking a start from second grid slot. However, after the race, he insisted that they still need to work on certain
things and must improve their tyre management in order to perform well in the forthcoming races.
Meanwhile, Wolff has said that they have full confidence in the abilities of the 28-year-old. In addition, he stated that the British driver will hopefully achieve much more in the season ahead.
“I don't have that feeling we lack confidence in him,” Wolff said. “I think we will see great races from Lewis. I've no doubt about that.”
Besides, he said that Nico Rosberg may have surprised Hamilton with his amazing pace in the season so far, but he doesn’t think of it as a problem.
“Maybe he has been surprised with Nico's pace,” he said. “Now he has proven he is really quick and this came as a surprise for Lewis, but I don't think it's a real problem.”
Moreover, he said that they are trying their best to provide everything to the 2008 world champion so that he can perform well in the forthcoming races. He also said that Hamilton has attained great results in the season until
now and has surely come up to their expectations.
“For sure, it's different here to McLaren,” added Wolff. “We're trying to give him freedom, but I don't think it's the reason why he hasn't performed up to his expectations, although he has performed up to ours,” he added.
At present, the Briton is standing at 4th place in the drivers’ championship with 77 points. Additionally, he is ahead of Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing and behind Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus. It will be exciting to see
how he performs in his home race and whether he will be able to come up to the expectations of his fans or not.
