Toto Wolff insists Mercedes must focus on resolving their issues – Formula 1 news
Mercedes motorsport boss, Toto Wolff has said that they must work hard to resolve their problems in order to perform well in the 2013 Formula 1 season ahead.
The Brackley based squad faced immense difficulties in the German Grand Prix as their drivers, Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton, were fighting amongst the midfield contenders because of some tyre management issues.
Although, Wolff said that they were a little bit upset over their results in the preceding race, they are not facing huge disappointment as they have a competent car which was out of form at Nurburgring.
“Germany was not a huge disappointment, it was just disappointing,” he told Autosport.
“It is not nice to see a car which won seven days before not performing in the same way - going from a top car back to a midfield performance,” he said.
In addition, he said that their car is quite fast and they can surely compete well with their main rivals in the approaching races. Besides, he said that they need to work really hard to find the necessary solution for their problems in order to fight back
in the forthcoming races. He also stated that they have some very intelligent people who will hopefully resolve the ongoing issues soon.
“But we know the car is pretty quick. A car doesn't deteriorate in just seven days,” he added.
“It highlights that we have to put our heads together. I think we have pretty intelligent people and we have to get on top of the problems,” he explained.
Additionally, he said that they will surely miss out some crucial data, to make further improvements, because of their ban on taking part in the Young Driver Test which is to be held at Silverstone circuit this week.
Presently, the Silver Arrows are standing at second place in the constructors’ championship with 183 points. Moreover, they are ahead of Ferrari and behind the defending champions Red Bull Racing.
It will be interesting to see how they perform in the Hungarian GP and whether they will be able to resolve their issues or not.
