Toto Wolff justifies Bruno Senna’s replacement in Williams – Formula 1 news
Williams’ executive director, Toto Wolff has said that they are not going to face any kind of financial issue because of the replacement of Bruno Senna with their reserve driver, Valtteri Bottas in the 2013 Formula 1 season.
The Grove based team has recently announced their next year’s driver line-up which includes Pastor Maldonado and Bottas.
Although, there have been many speculations that the British squad may face financial problems in the next season because of the departure of Senna who brought huge sponsors with him. However, Wolff has discharged all the rumours and has asserted that they
are feeling pleased as the Finn has brought some very committed sponsors.
“Finance plays an important role so for us it was important to have the best possible package, and we are happy Valtteri has partners who are committed to formula one, and have followed him into formula one,” he is quoted by the Scotsman newspaper.
In addition, he admired the skills and talent of the Finnish driver who performed amazingly well in the Young Driver Test and has also replaced the 29-year-old in many free practice sessions during the year.
Therefore, he insisted that they are feeling confident about their decision regarding the next season’s driver line-up and are eagerly looking forward to attain promising results.
“I’m happy to say he is not only doing a great job on track but off it, as we have been quite successful in Finland securing backing. It is not unsubstantial,” he said. “So getting Valtteri on board is not hara-kiri move from commercial point of view.”
Besides, he said that Senna has not been able to achieve the desired results for the team in this season and has struggled in many races as compared to his teammate, Maldonado who scored a tremendous victory in the Spanish GP. Additionally, he believes that
the Brazilian may leave the sport after this year as he has not been able to perform well.
“I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t think he’ll continue in F1,” he added.
Let’s see how Williams perform in the next year with Maldonado and Bottas.
