Toto Wolff says Williams’ driver line-up for 2013 is still open – Formula 1 news
Williams’ executive director Toto Wolff has said that their driver line-up for the next year is still open and their current test driver Valtteri Bottas has been seen as a potential replacement of Bruno Senna or Pastor Maldonado.
Maldonado claimed an impressive victory in the Spanish Grand Prix after securing his first ever pole position. However, he has struggled in most of the races in the season until now and has failed to score competitive points for his team. Meanwhile, his
teammate, Senna has also not been able to perform quite well for his team.
Therefore, Wolff has recently said that they have not finalised their driver line-up for the coming season and are considering bringing Bottas who performed tremendously well in the Young Driver Test held at Silverstone Circuit, as their race driver. Furthermore,
he admired the skills and talent of the Finnish driver and said that he surely deserves to be in the sport.
"I think Valtteri is going to end up in Formula One, that's for sure, and I think the question is are we going to have him in one of our cars or somebody else going to sneak him up," he told ESPNF1. "This is a decision we have to make together in the next
couple of weeks or months and decide which direction the team is going to head in; are we continuing with the current drivers or are we going to change one of them or two of them? So it's all open at this stage."
Nevertheless, he said that he will get back from the conversations about the Finn’s future if there will be any contradictions with the team.
Above and beyond, it will be important to mention that he made it clear that Bottas has got some amazing talent and he is hoping to see him in the game in the near future.
At present, the Grove based team is standing at 8th position in the constructors’ championship with 54 points. Besides, they are ahead of Toro Rosso and are behind Force India.
Let’s see how they come up in the Singapore GP next weekend.
