Question:

Toto toilet: slow filling?

My mother in law called about her toilet taking up to 15 minutes to fill.

I'm 1500 miles away, so can't just stop in and look at it, and I've never worked on a Toto.

Here's what I think I know:

-- it says 1.6 gpf on the toilet

-- at one time, it was whistling every time you flushed -- it doesn't now.

-- it has a blue thing inside with 1 2 3 on it -- she thinks that adjusts how much water is released per flush

-- a houseguest did something to the 1 2 3 thing

-- the cutoff valve under the toilet is turned all the way on

She says the flapper or flapper equivalent is ok, it's not leaking from the tank into the bowl.

At the moment, I can't persuade her to call a plumber to fix it.

Any suggestions as to what this might be? Have I any hope of fixing it by phone?

Thanks.

  1. ask the plumber

  2. It sounds as if there is trash that made its way into the fill valve.  For someone with a small amount of mechanical aptitude, it is an easy fix.  Otherwise, call a plumber.
