Tottenham Hotspur’s Michael Dawson has revealed his disappointment after his side’s 2-2 draw against West Bromwich Albion in the Barclays Premier League on Saturday, 24th April. The defender was left ruing a late wonder goal by Simon Cox; a goal
which could possibly cost Spurs their UEFA Champions League status.
Tottenham welcomed West Bromwich Albion to White Hart Lane on Saturday, looking for nothing less than a win to keep alive their hopes of finishing in the top four at the end of the season. They got off to the worst possible start. West Brom’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Peter-Odemwingie-c29794
gave his side the lead within the first five minutes. However, Tottenham showed the spirit of champions to fight their way back into the contest.
Two goals from the home team either side of half time seemed to ensure that all three points would belong to Spurs; however, Baggies substitute Simon Cox had other ideas. The striker, who had not scored for his club in the entire campaign up to now, curled
in a phenomenal effort that left goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Heurelho-Gomes-c16173 with no other option but to stop and admire the shot. It was a goal no one saw coming, least of all the man who scored it.
Thanks to that late goal, the match at White Hart Lane ended 2-2. The result sees Spurs remain in fifth place, one point behind fourth placed Manchester City. Crucially though, Tottenham have played a game more than City. This has left the London club with
a huge mountain to climb in the remaining four games of the season; a mountain that would not have been quite as high had Simon Cox not chosen White Hart Lane as the venue for his miraculous strike.
Speaking after the match, Tottenham captain Michael Dawson said, “To concede that wonder goal after coming back from going 1-0 down so early really took it out of us. We looked good to go on and win when we went 2-1 up. We were passing the ball around well
at that stage but it only takes a second to score a goal and that proved it."
He added, "It was so disappointing but we have to pick ourselves up and go again."
Tottenham are currently fifth in the Barclays Premier League with 55 points.
