Tottenham Hotspur striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jermain-Defoe-c18359 has revealed he is looking forward to challenging the league leaders for the Premier League title.
The Spurs are currently at third place on the table, six points behind Manchester City but have a game in hand. Defoe remains confident his side can go on to win their very first Premier League if they remain confident and consistent in the upcoming games.
The England international joined the Spurs in 2004 for an initial fee of £6 million from West Ham United and went on to make 139 appearances in the League and scored 43 goals before moving on to Portsmouth. After a year with the side he returned to Tottenham Hotspur in the winter transfer window of 2009.
After a slow start with just ten appearances and four goals for the remainder of the season, Defoe went on to once again be a crucial part of the team. In his next season he made a total of 43 appearances in all competitions and scored 24 goals.
While he had various injury problems in the 2010-2011 season, the England striker still went on to make 30 appearances and scored nine goals. He has done much better this season after regaining fitness and has scored ten goals already in 21 appearances.
Defoe said while speaking to reporters:
“I'm loving the pressure. It's like playing tournament football for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749, when everyone is pinning their hopes on you to make the breakthrough.
It means I have to make sure my preparation is right, that my attitude is right. Because I know how much it means to so many people.”
The striker was certain that while Manchester City and Manchester United were favourites to win the Premier League title, Tottenham Hotspur were a close third. He revealed how his side were making the most of the pressure to win.
He continued:
“City and United know we are a threat, and with every game that we keep on winning we can put pressure on them to keep winning.
We don't feel negative pressure. We are enjoying it. But at the same time we know that it may not come again in the way that it has.”
