Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp admits to wanting expensive Carlos Tevez
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp revealed he was interested in signing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carlos-c8346 Tevez, the Manchester City striker, but he admitted the London side was currently not in a position to afford his costly wages.
Tevez has been involved in a row with the Manchester City manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323, after which his departure seems imminent. The Argentine forward apparently refused to come on during the UEFA Champions League clash against Bayern Munich, which has led him
to be dropped from the squad.
The Italian manager has made it clear he will ensure the former Manchester United player does not have a future at the club. It is for this reason that Tevez is currently on the look-out for another club, for which he will most likely leave for in the January
transfer window.
While Tevez could cost around £30 million, a price the London side could afford, his wages of £200,000 a week though, is something they can’t. Redknapp admitted he would love to have Tevez in his side, but claimed he was not in a position to afford his over
the top wages.
Redknapp said while speaking to reporters:
“Would I like him? Yes. Anyone would like him. He is a fantastic player.
He is an amazing player. When he plays no one gives more than he does. He works his socks off, he runs, he chases, he plays, he tackles and he scores goals.”
He continued:
“Affording him is a different matter. That's the problem. We couldn't afford him really.”
Despite the player’s obvious refusal to obey the manager, the Professional Footballers’ Association ensured Tevez did not get more than a four week ban. The Spurs boss claimed he was bored of following the seemingly never ending saga and expected the PFA
to support their players no matter what.
Redknapp admitted:
“It's a difficult one. The PFA will always support their players. To be honest, I haven't been following it. I got fed up reading about it."
In the end, Redknapp did not think the episode had a lasting effect on Tevez, who would surely return to regular football once he left Manchester City. Even without playing for two additional weeks, the 27-year-old would be able to manage just fine.
He revealed:
“How is that going to hurt him anyway? The extra two weeks won't hurt him when you are earning unbelievable money like that.”
