Harry Redknapp, the Tottenham Hotspur boss, revealed he was certain on-loan Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor would not attempt any over the top celebrations if he scored against former side Arsenal today. The Gunners travel to White Hart Lane in
the first London derby of the new season and all the attention will be on Adebayor, who left the London club in the summer of 2009.
While playing for Manchester City, Adebayor showed no regard for his former side, after scoring a goal against them, running the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of the Arsenal supporters. That, along with the fact that he has now joined their London
rivals Tottenham Hotspur, has not made the Togolese forward a very popular figure with the Gunners.
Redknapp said while speaking to reporters:
“I'm sure he won't over-react again. I think he apologised last time. He's got a lot of respect for Arsenal still but he loves it here now, he's a Tottenham player.”
The Spurs boss said he was certain the Manchester City striker had learnt his lesson and would not overreact even if he did score a goal against Arsenal today. Redknapp revealed he had not felt the need to speak to Adebayor about the incident and admitted
he was hoping for one of Adebayor’s sliding celebrations. With the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Togo-c3022 international expected to face a hostile crowd, the English manager said Adebayor would have to deal with the jeering crowd since it was all part of the game.
He revealed:
“You can't react to that. He's got to get on with it. Fans are entitled to give players all the stick in the world so long as it's in the bounds of decency.”
Redknapp revealed he was looking forward to a tough fixture against Arsenal, who have not exactly been in the best of forms recently. Even though they have managed wins in their last few fixtures, both domestic and in Europe, the Gunners are still not consistent.
The Spurs manager was aware they would try and resume their winning streak when they travelled to White Hart Lane, which is why he predicted the match to be tough.
Redknapp admitted:
“They'll be difficult to beat but we are a very good team as well so I fancy our chances against anybody.”
However, Redknapp said he was certain his side possessed the quality to defeat any top side in the Premier League. After having missed out on the UEFA Champions League spot at the end of last season, Redknapp made some notable additions to the team in the
summer transfer window along with retaining key players. He said he was confident the likes of Scott Parker and Emmanuel Adebayor made the squad stronger for tough fixtures such as this.
He added:
“Scott Parker and Adebayor coming in have made a massive difference to us. Sandro coming back from his long-term injury gives us strength.”
