Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp defends top class http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857’s transfer request
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp revealed he felt the departure of Luka Modric in the summer transfer window would have resulted in many of the other top players also leaving the London club. The 26-year-old Croatian midfielder was heavily linked
with a move to London rivals http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, but the Spurs management rejected four bids to retain the services of Modric.
The Spurs boss praised Modric, who despite wanting to leave for Chelsea had stayed on with Tottenham Hotspur without much complain. Unlike most players who along with complaining, sulking and refusing to play threaten to score own goals, Modric has been
on his best behaviour. Redknapp revealed he considered the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Croatia-c2879 international to be a top player and that he had given him no reason to complain.
Redknapp said while speaking to reporters:
“Luka's just a top player. You will never hear me complaining about him.”
In fact, Redknapp felt all the Croatian players in the squad had similar qualities. Even when they did not make the first team, the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Niko-Kranjcar-c27926 and Luka Modric were not the type to complain. Instead of displaying their disappointment
at not being selected for the starting XI, the trio have been known to work even harder in the next training session.
He continued:
“To be fair it's the same with all those Croatian boys at Tottenham - Luka, Vedran Corluka and Niko Kranjcar. They don't sit around and sulk or throw the toys out of their pram if they don't make the team.
They just come into training and get their heads down and work hard to get back in. I wish other players were as easy to deal with.”
It cannot be forgotten that during the summer transfer window Modric had handed in a transfer request, which was ignored by the club chairman http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Levy, but still angered a section of the fans. Redknapp defended Modric’s desire to leave for Stamford Bridge,
claiming the offer by the Blues’ was indeed too good to turn down and it was only natural that Modric was tempted to take it.
Redknapp revealed:
“Nobody can tell me that any player's head wouldn't be turned by the offer of Champions League football at Chelsea and a £130,000-a-week salary.
I can't blame Luka for considering it, he's only human.”
