Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp denies Chelsea link, wants Spurs to be title contenders
Harry Redknapp, the Tottenham Hotspur manager, denied rumors that he was being linked with replacing Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti at Stamford Bridge, next season. The Spurs boss is amongst a number of managers who are being considered by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 owner Roman
Abramovich to replace Ancelotti, after the Italian failed to deliver any trophies this season.
Chelsea’s first disappointment came when they were eliminated from the Carling Cup and FA Cup by Newcastle United and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c39043 respectively, earlier on in the season. The Blues then went on to lose their spot at the top of the English Premier League to Manchester
United and finally got knocked out from the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals by United, which successfully ended their hopes of silverware this season.
The Russian billionaire is not happy with the Italian manager, under who Chelsea suffered their worst ever slump in over 15 years. However, since then the Blues have recovered immensely and are now third on the Premier League table, just two points behind
second place http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-Maseru-c38430 and eight points behind league leaders Manchester United.
It seems to be a case of too little too late though, and a top three finish and qualification for the Champions League next season will not be enough to please Abramovich. He has been on the look-out for replacements and the Tottenham boss, Harry Redknapp,
is the latest name to be linked to the hot-seat at Stamford Bridge.
Previous candidates include former Chelsea managers Jose Mourinho and Guus Hiddink, both of whom have distanced themselves from the job. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38605 coach Pep Guardiola has also been linked with an arrival in England, while former Italy national team coach
Marcello Lippi has expressed his desire to manage Chelsea.
Harry Redknapp though, does not seem to be interested, having been linked with taking over the England national team when current England coach Fabio Capello retires. Redknapp revealed he had not been contacted by Chelsea and dismissed the speculation linking
him to the Blues as mere rumors. The Tottenham manager said he was happy with his side, who have shown drastic improvement this season.
“I don't take a lot of notice. I just get on with it. It's speculation. I've never spoken to anyone from Chelsea. No-one's come to me and said that Chelsea are interested in me or anything else. I've got a job to do here. I love it here. I'm happy here,”
said Redknapp.
The Spurs boss was certain his side were on their way to becoming title contenders. He continued, “I keep saying, this club isn't that far away - if they want to push on - from winning the championship. You can't stand still. It means improving. Better players
make you a better team. With one or two additions, I think we can go on and push for the title.”
With the end of the season fast approaching and with the summer transfer window close, Redknapp spoke about the importance of a strong team. He revealed he intended to buy at least two players, who he believed would strengthen the existing squad and make
them title contenders in the next campaign.
