Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp denies Chelsea link
Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp is among the many managers’ currently linked with replacing Carlo Ancelotti at Stamford Bridge.
Ancelotti was sacked moments after the 1-0 loss to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c39043 at Goodison Park in the last English Premier League fixture of the season.
The Italian manager failed to lead the Blues to any silverware this season, with the London side finishing second on the Premier League table.
The season was a disappointment, not just in comparison to last season when Ancelotti led Chelsea to their first ever domestic double, but by anyone’s and everyone’s standards.
This is exactly why Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich did not wait for Ancelotti’s contract to run out, which would have been at the end of next season, choosing to replace him sooner, rather than later.
Since then the rumor mill has been abuzz with talk about all the various managers who could take over the hot seat at Stamford Bridge in the summer.
The Spurs boss has also been linked with making a move to the London rivals, but he went on to deny having been approached by the Blues.
Harry Redknapp said in a statement:
“Well I have got a great job at Tottenham; things are going well for me.
I have had a couple of great years it couldn't have gone better for me there.
I haven't heard anything from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 that's for sure, no one has ever mentioned Chelsea to me.
It's not the first I have heard of it, someone said to me today your name got mentioned on TV, well I said I've never heard nothing at all so it's all news to me.”
Redknapp arrived at White Hart Lane in the middle of the 2008 season, after Juande Ramos was sacked. He did well to save the London side from relegation and steered them to an eighth place finish and a Carling Cup final.
Next season, his first full season at the club, Redknapp did much better, leading Tottenham to a fourth place finish in the Premier League and therefore qualifying for the UEFA Champions League.
As a result of which he was given the Premier League Manager of the Year award and a contract extension until the end of the 2013 season.
While the Spurs performed brilliantly under him in both the English Premier League and the Champions League at the beginning of this season, they fell short towards the end.
The drop in form ended their otherwise impressive season in a fifth place finish in the Premier League, which means they do not qualify for the Champions League this time around.
They do however, qualify for the Europa League, the second tier European competition. According to Redknapp he felt he had done a good http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 with the Spurs.
He revealed he intended to remain with Tottenham and see out the remainder of his contract, successfully ruling himself out of being considered for the Chelsea job.
