Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp denied rumours that his decision in selecting the starting team against Newcastle United had been affected by a post from a fake Twitter account. The player in question was Jermain Defoe, with the 29-year-old http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749
international failing to make it to the starting XI despite being in excellent form this season.
Instead, Defoe was introduced later in the 2-2 draw at St. James’ Park and it was the English striker who scored to give the Spurs a 2-1 lead. Unfortunately, the London side were unable to maintain their lead and in the end had to settle for a point from
the away fixture. Redknapp was asked after the match if he had seen the Tweet and whether his decision had been influenced by it.
The English manager claimed he did not even know what a “Tweet” was, which is why there was no possibility he had seen the one which apparently influenced his decision. According to Redknapp, the influence of social media had been blown out of proportion
and while it was widely used, he had no interest in getting involved any time soon.
Redknapp said while speaking to reporters:
“I don't know what it is. I haven't got a clue what a Tweet is.”
He continued:
“It's beyond me all this Tweeting and Facebooking. I don't understand it as I live in another world to that so I don't know if he's Tweeted or not.
In fact I couldn't care if he did or he didn't really.”
Redknapp’s side host Rubin Kazan in their mid-week UEFA Europa League fixture and it is not yet certain who the Spurs boss will choose to lead the attack. The Tottenham Hotspur manager later unsuccessfully tried to make a joke about the striker trying to
contact him on his phone and his inability to receive his call because of a broken phone.
He joked:
“This phone don't even work. The ringer's broke. It's Jermain Defoe - 'Why didn't I 'effing play' - what's he Tweeting me for?”
