Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has admitted that he has a tough challenge ahead of him to retain certain players at the club during the January transfer window.
The English manager revealed he would do his best to retain the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Niko-Kranjcar-c27926. The aforementioned players are looking to leave the club in search for regular football, but it was only with their presence that
Redknapp believed the Spurs could go on win their first Premier League title.
It is believed that Redknapp will field a changed starting XI for the FA Cup clash against Cheltenham on Saturday to give the other players a chance. Along with that, the regular first team starters are in desperate need of a break from football.
Redknapp said while speaking to reporters:
“The odd game here and there won't be enough to keep them happy, but what can you do? You have got to have a big squad.
We had four midfield players and suddenly now we have got two. That is what can happen in a week. You get injuries.”
It was due to unexpected injuries that Redknapp revealed he could not afford to let the fringe players leave the club in the winter transfer window. With goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Heurelho-Gomes-c16173, Sebastien Bassong and Danny Rose having already asked to leave, they could
be getting a start today.
He revealed:
“http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-c10193 Rose came to see me and asked if he could go on loan. But I can't because if Benoit (Assou-Ekotto) gets injured, he is in.
Gomes wants to move but I don't want him to go as we will need three 'keepers. You never know, you might get an injury and none of them are young.
Pienaar is a good player, but he has not been in the team.”
The manager was certain his side would only stand a chance to challenge the top teams for the Premier League title if they had a deep squad. However, the future of the players concerned remains in doubt and will be decided sometime in the near future as
the winter transfer nears a close.
