Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp hints interest in Scott Parker – Premier League news
Manager of Tottenham Hotspur Harry Redknapp has set his sights on West Ham United midfielder Scott Parker as his prime target for the 2011 summer transfer window.
Parker has been ear marked by Redknapp as one player that will fit perfectly into the Spurs’ setup.
Parker has been one of the only few bright spots in an otherwise dismal 2010-11 season for West Ham. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international had a good season personally and despite his team being relegation threatened for most of the season, Parker earned back his place
in the England national team. It is not often that a player from a relegated team is named FWA Player of the Year, but Scott Parker did receive the award this season.
The Hammers’ midfielder is almost certain to part ways with West Ham United as he wants to carry on playing in the Premier League. West Ham have already started listening to offers from other clubs, and the Spurs are waiting for the summer window to make
their offer.
In the last season, Redknapp did try to sign Parker but failed in his bid. However, he never hid his admiration of the hard working midfielder. Parker is also a good friend of Redknapp’s son Jamie Redknapp who is a former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 player.
Tottenham had a decent season this term, but their commitments in the Champions League maybe did hold them back and they were not able to retain the 4th place in the Premier League. Redknapp has blamed that to lack of experience in the team. The
Spurs boss did try to bring in some seasoned players to the team to address the same problem. In the past, he has tried to get hold of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mark-van-Bommel-c24148.
Harry Redknapp has already made two trips to Europe looking for players to sign in the summers. However, he admitted that he would prefer to have a homegrown British player in the team to fill the void instead of looking for other European players. Redknapp
said that Parker is almost exactly what he wants to add to his current squad.
He said, “We lack one or two strong characters, It's important that you have one or two leaders. I'd rather find players in this country that can do the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684, rather than hope they can do it, if I can. Scott is a quiet boy but he is a leader because on the
pitch he leads by example. I'm not just saying necessarily Scott but we need to find one or two that are that type if we can.”
The former Southampton boss admitted that the performances of Scott Parker would have been noticed by other clubs too and he will have his hands full as he tries to secure his services in the summers.
