Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp pleased with depth in squad after crashing out of the Carling Cup
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp said he believed his squad possessed the depth and quality to compete in all the competitions this season and revealed he was determined to win every single upcoming match. The Spurs were dumped out of the Carling
Cup by Stoke City in mid-week, right after featuring in the Europa League, making it their third game in six days.
The match reached penalties after a goal-less draw and Stoke City managed to beat the London side 7-6 in the penalty shoot-out. Even though it was their commitment in Europe last season that cost them the top four spot in the English Premier League. It is
because of that the Spurs find themselves in the Europa League instead of the Champions League this season.
However, the English manager was certain his side would do better this season even though they had a tough schedule with their involvement in the Europa League. Redknapp revealed he had made several changes to the side that had played in the European competition,
giving the young players a chance. The side that was defeated in the Carling Cup is expected to face further changes for the trip to Wigan over the weekend.
Redknapp said while speaking to reporters:
“We feel we can compete on several fronts, because we have the squad to do it.
We changed 10 players for the Europa League side last week, and then another nine players for the Carling Cup.
So I don't think it'll impact on us too much to be involved in several competitions. It gives us the chance to blood some youngsters, and to give them opportunities.”
Redknapp admitted the aim to win all the games was tough, but was certain his side would be able to achieve it if they retained their top form. He maintained he possessed a world class squad and said he had been especially impressed with Rafael van der Vaart,
Sandro and youngsters http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jake-Livermore-c17604 and Tom Carroll. The inclusion of the youngsters to the senior team has provided Redknapp with further options while selecting his squad for upcoming fixtures.
He continued:
“I am pleased because Rafa (Van Der Vaart) and Sandro got playing time, and showed they are coming back well, which is what we want.
And Jake Livermore and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tom-c35214 Carroll were excellent in midfield, absolutely top class, which will give us more options there when they begin to mature and progress.”
