Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp refuses to concede Champions League quarter-final tie
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp believes his side still has a chance of making it through to the semi-finals of the Champions League, despite the fact that the Spurs were hammered 4-0 by Real Madrid in the first leg of their quarter-final tie at
the Santiago Bernabeu.
However, Redknapp is aware that the odds are stacked against them after Tuesday’s massive defeat.
The Premier League side was already trailing to an http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Peter-Crouch-c29741 was sent off in the 15th minute.
Manager Harry Redknapp claimed that getting a result was ‘impossible’ after Spurs were reduced to ten men. Though perhaps he should have expected that things were not going to go his way after midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aaron-Lennon-c3062 pulled out of the Spurs squad at the
last minute due to an illness.
Speaking after the defeat, the Tottenham manager said, “It was a difficult night. I lost Aaron Lennon just as the team were walking onto the pitch, he didn't feel well enough to play so we had to change that straight away, and obviously to go down to 10
men is difficult, you need a miracle here to win with 10 men.”
Even though Spurs now have a mountain to climb in the second leg, Harry Redknapp still refuses to concede the tie. He believes that there is a small chance that his side can overcome the four-goal deficit when Real Madrid visit White Hart Lane in two weeks
time.
Redknapp said, “Well, it's going to be very difficult. It certainly couldn't be much more difficult than being 4-0 down to Real Madrid, but we're at home, we'll give it a go. It's never over until it's over and you never know, though obviously we've got
a mountain to climb, there's no doubt about that.”
The teams will face off in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final fixture on 13 April, 2011.
