Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp thinks Manchester City’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Emmanuel-Adebayor-c12526 will provide edge over Arsenal
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp revealed Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor would do really well at White Hart Lane. The Spurs boss felt the player would only do better in response to the hate displayed by the Arsenal supporters.
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly close to securing the 27-year-old http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Togo-c3022 international on a loan move from Premier League rivals Manchester City. The striker’s services were no longer required at the Eastlands, which is why he has been allowed to leave.
Manchester City manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323 has some exciting options after bringing in new signings during the summer transfer window. The Italian manager made it clear he had no more use for the Togolese forward and has asked him to leave the club.
While Adebayor spent the latter half of last season on loan with La Liga giants Real Madrid, he failed to make an impression on Madrid boss Jose Mourinho. As a result the Portuguese manager did not sign Adebayor on a more permanent deal.
Adebayor was brought in to replace injured Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain, and did well by scoring eight goals in 22 appearances. However, with Higuain having returned to fitness, Mourinho had no use for Adebayor in the new season.
Thus he returned to Manchester City, but will be leaving to join Tottenham Hotspur as long as an agreement is reached between the two sides. Redknapp admitted that Arsenal fans’ dislike for the striker made him a perfect signing for the Spurs.
Redknapp said while speaking to reporters:
“Arsenal fans hate him so ours will love him. He'll be a hero because he upset Arsenal.”
Adebayor left Arsenal in the summer of 2009, joining Manchester City on a long-term five year deal for a fee of £25 million. He incurred the Gunners’ wrath when he scored against them in a Premier League fixture and went on celebrate the goal.
Redknapp felt the player was treated somewhat unfairly by the Arsenal supporters, who had incited that reaction. The Tottenham Hotspur manager revealed he had offered the player his support right after the incident.
He continued:
“He called to thank me for my support when I stuck up for him after that incident.
I said he was a bit over the top. But the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 fans were giving him almighty abuse and so he was entitled to stick it to them when he scored that goal.”
The English manager said he had previously tried to sign Adebayor, but had been unable to do so because of his wages. However, the Spurs were now able to afford his services, especially since they were signing him on a loan deal.
Redknapp said:
“He was fantastic when we played Madrid. We couldn't handle him.
He was almost unplayable when he was with Arsenal and that's why City paid £25 million for him.
If he comes to Tottenham with his head on and really wants to play, he could be sensational.”
