Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp to give young players a chance in the Europa League
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp revealed he planned on playing his younger players in the upcoming Europa League fixtures. The Spurs boss said he didn’t want to over-exert his senior players ahead of the new English Premier League campaign.
Having failed to reach a UEFA Champions League spot, Redknapp is determined to give the Premier League preference over the second tier European competition. This is why the English manager will be fielding younger players in the Europa League fixture, where the Spurs have drawn Scottish side Hearts.
According to Redknapp, playing on Thursdays and Sundays was nothing short of a nightmare but he was confident his side would manage just fine. The younger players featuring in Europe will actually be beneficial for the club as they will gain necessary first team experience.
Redknapp said while speaking to reporters:
“The young lads will get plenty of games in the Europa League because, otherwise, I think it's a killer, to be frank.
Thursday and Sunday every week, you've got no chance in the Premier with that. It kills you off, it's a nightmare.
You have to go to crazy places, but we'll give it our best shot and just give it a go.”
Speaking of young players, Tottenham Hotspur striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 under-20 international is close to completing his loan move to Yeovil Town. The move will see the youngster leave White Hart Lane until January 2012.
Obika has previously played for Yeovil before, spending time there on a loan move in 2009, 2010 and 2011. He made 11 appearances and found the back of the net thrice during his last time at the club. It is his success with the League One side that sees him returning there for another loan spell.
The English striker began his senior career with the Spurs in 2008 after graduating from the Tottenham Hotspur youth academy. Since then however, he has constantly been on the move to various Championship and League One sides for regular first team experience.
Obika has been on loan to Yeovil Town, Millwall, Crystal Palace, Peterborough United and Swindon Town. He will finally return to White Hart Lane in the winter transfer window of next year, where he might be given an opportunity to prove himself.
