Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp revealed he was considering making an offer for Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole. With just a few days remaining in the summer transfer window, the Spurs boss hinted that he could make a surprise offer for the former
Chelsea player.
Unhappy at Stamford Bridge due to lack of first team opportunities, Cole decided to leave. He was linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, but chose the Reds instead. However, he failed to make an impact at Anfield and since then has been linked
with a move away.
The only difference this time around is that no top club is interested in signing the injury prone midfielder. Having signed a four-year deal with Liverpool in 2010, Cole went on to make just 32 appearances in all competitions and found the back of the net
three times.
He was inconsistent and picked up injuries throughout the season; in addition to that he was mostly used as a substitute by manager Kenny Dalglish. With the Reds having made new signings, they no longer require the services of Cole.
He was initially linked with a move to newly promoted side Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314, but they have not really pursued the player. It now seems Cole will be forced to remain at Anfield as a bench-warmer, unless Tottenham Hotspur sign him.
Redknapp, who has previously managed Cole at West Ham United, revealed he was still an admirer of the midfielder. He was certain Cole could go on to play top flight football and would fit in well at White Hart Lane.
Redknapp is currently facing a crisis in midfield, with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 are preparing a third and final bid which could change that.
Redknapp said while speaking to reporters:
“I like Joe. I signed him as an 11-year-old. He is a good player.
I've got all the time in the world for him. We haven't made any enquiries about him but I wouldn't sit here and say I wouldn't have him at the club because if I did I'd be lying. I do like him.”
