Tottenham Hotspur boss delighted with Gareth Bale's Champions League showing
Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp says he was “amazed” at Gareth Bale's performance against Werder Bremen in a UEFA Champions League group stage match at White Hart Lane on Wednesday 24 November.
The 21-year-old shone alongside fellow winger Aaron Lennon in the 3-0 win over the German outfit, with England international Lennon setting up two goals from the right flank and Bale proving too much for Werder right-back Clemens Fritz to handle. The Wales
international also hit the crossbar twice.
Bale's strong display against Werder follows on from his two outstanding performances against European champions Inter Milan, in which he scored a hat-trick in a 4-3 defeat at the San Siro before inspiring his team to a 3-1 victory with two assists in the
return game at White Hart Lane.
The sought-after attacker's stock rose again after his efforts against Werder and Redknapp had nothing but praise for his star man.
He told reporters: "Aaron is starting to go past people which is want we want him to do but some of the stuff Gareth did tonight was amazing. Some of the crosses he put in on the run were amazing.
"It was a bit like when we played Inter with their right-back (Maicon Douglas Sisenando) We had reports about how good Bremen's right-back was, how he likes to get forward and trouble people but Gareth gave him a torrid time again."
The win confirmed Spurs' place in the last 16 of the Champions League in their debut appearance in the competition. If they can match or better Inter's result against Werder when they play Dutch champions FC Twente on 7 December, Spurs will win the group
and avoid playing the likes of Real Madrid or Barcelona in the next round.
