English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly in the race to sign Gylfi Sigurdsson, the 22-year-old 1899 Hoffenheim attacking midfielder.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, but negotiations seemed to have crumbled and the Spurs have decided to step in. According to reports, the London club have even agreed to a fee for the midfielder, 8 million pounds.
Swansea City, under Brendan Rodgers, were interested in signing Sigurdsson, but after the manager moved to Liverpool and it was the Reds who took up interest in the player. They are now facing severe competition from Tottenham Hotspur, even though the Iceland
international is reported to be keen on a reunion with Rodgers.
Sigurdsson began his career with Reading in 2008, making 42 appearances in the League and scoring 19 goals until his departure in 2010. He was loaned out to Shrewsbury Town and Crewe Alexandra in 2008 and 2009 respectively during his spell at Reading.
The Icelandic footballer joined 1899 Hoffenheim in the summer of 2010 after a fee was agreed between the two sides. Sigurdsson made his debut n September, in a win over Schalke and went on to score his first goal for the side against Kaiserslautern.
Despite only making 13 starts, Sigurdsson was surprisingly voted the fans’ player of the season. He managed to score 10 goals and provided two assists and was considered to have secured a place in the first team when he was linked with a move away.
In the winter transfer window of 2012, the midfielder was loaned out to Swansea City for the remainder of the season. He made a brilliant debut, setting up with winning goal in the 3-2 win over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 in the English Premier League.
With 18 appearances, seven goals and four assists, Sigurdsson can be considered a success in the Premier League, which is why there is interest from so many top English sides. However, there is a possibility that Sigurdsson could remain with Hoffenheim.
The club’s manager said in a statement:
“If, by the deadline on June 30, he has done nothing then he will return to his pre-season with us.
We have agreed this with him.”
