A source close to English side, Tottenham Hotspur, has revealed that A.S Roma striker, Mirko Vucinic is closing in on a move to White Hart Lane despite interest from Manchester United.
The agent of Vucinic claimed yesterday that English Champions, Manchester United, have enquired about his client and are close to complete a deal for him. Spurs insider has revealed that Tottenham manager, Harry Redknapp, is a huge admirer of the 27-year-old and he is in advanced talks to sign him.
The source revealed that the lilywhites are in constant contact with the Giallorossi since the past week and are closing in on 15-million-pounds deal. The Tottenham insider believes that the interest from Old Trafford is a causal enquiry and they do not hold a strong interest.
Talking to the source said, "As far as we're concerned, the Manchester United interest is a red herring. We've been talking to Roma almost daily for the best part of two weeks and have never heard it mentioned that United may want him. Vucinic has indicated he is interested in moving to Spurs, his agent is probably trying to squeeze out the best possible contract for his client.”
The source revealed that the Montenegrin is Redknapp’s top transfer target, as he is desperately in need of a top quality striker.
"Harry is a little concerned by his goal-scoring record and reports about his character, but Vucinic is the main target now.”
The former Lecce star has two years left on his contract with Roma and the Italian outfit will be forced to sell him rather than risk losing him for free. However, new manager, Luis Enrique, has urged the unsettled striker to remain at Stadio Olimpico Rome. Vucinic is unhappy with the fans attitude towards him in the 2010/11 campaign and has clearly mentioned that he has no other option than leaving the club.
The striker has attracted interest from Juventus too but the Turin based side could not meet the valuation of Roma.
