Tottenham Hotspur defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto urges fans to accept Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor
Tottenham Hotspur defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto revealed he was certain the club’s supporters would welcome new arrival http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Emmanuel-Adebayor-c12526. The Manchester City striker has previously played for Tottenham Hotspur’s London rivals Arsenal and that might make
it hard for some fans to accept him at White Hart Lane.
The 27-year-old http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323 did not want him at the club. In search for regular first team football, Adebayor decided
on a move away from the Etihad Stadium.
While at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429, the striker was never liked by the Tottenham Hotspur supporters, who would go as far as to chant offensive slogans and songs. Their chants were always offensive and sometimes racist in nature and made it very difficult for Adebayor whenever
he visited White Hart Lane.
However, now that he has joined Tottenham Hotspur for a season, Assou-Ekotto revealed he was hopeful the fans would forgive Adebayor for having played for the Gunners. He urged all the supporters to accept the Togolese forward and support him along with
the rest of the squad.
Assou-Ekotto said while speaking to reporters:
“I don't think there will be any trouble with the Spurs fans and Emmanuel.
The fans when they come to the stadium they come to watch football and give their best to the team and I am sure they will support Emmanuel.”
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cameroon-c2865 international revealed he was certain Adebayor would help his cause by scoring goals for the Spurs and helping them doing better in the Premier League. While he barely got a chance to prove his abilities at Manchester City, Adebayor did fairly
well while on a half-a-season long loan to La Liga giants Real Madrid, scoring 8 goals in 22 appearances.
Assou-Ekotto said:
“For sure when he used to play for Arsenal the fans did not like him, but for us everyone will love him if he scores 25 goals this season.”
With the departure of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Peter-Crouch-c29741 to Stoke City in the summer transfer window, Adebayor is expected to be first choice striker at White Hart Lane. He will definitely have a chance to prove himself and gain the respect of the supporters
at Tottenham Hotspur.
Assou-Ekotto was certain the Togo international would make the most of the opportunity and eventually settle down at the club. While there have been no statements by either side, it is believed that Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp will consider
signing Adebayor on a permanent basis if he performs well.
He continued:
“Emmanuel is a great player and I believe he will be a great signing for Spurs this season.”
