Tottenham Hotspur defender Bongani Khumalo to Championship side Reading on a season-long move
Tottenham Hotspur defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bongani-Khumalo-c7836 leaves White Hart Lane after having just arrived at the club to join Championship side Reading on a season long deal. The 24-year-old South African international revealed he was extremely pleased to have made the move, which he felt would benefit him in the long-run.
The Spurs released a statement on their website confirming the deal, which revealed that the player himself had asked for a move to Reading. Khumalo has passed his medical with the Championship outfit, which means he will be starting the new campaign with the Royals. However, the Spurs have retained the option of recalling the defender in the January transfer window if they wish to do so.
Brian McDermott, the Reading manager, revealed he was extremely pleased with having acquired the South African on a season loan move. The Reading boss had has his eye on the 24-year-old defender since he made a loan move to Preston North End and now has the opportunity of having him in his squad. McDermott said while speaking to reporters:
“Bongani is a player we know very well.
He played against us for the Spurs reserves and also while on loan to Preston North towards the end of last season before his unfortunate leg injury.”
 He continued:
“I’d like to thank Harry Redknapp at Tottenham for allowing Bongani the opportunity to come out on loan and for giving us the opportunity to have him here. We are delighted to have him with us.”
Khumalo said he was also happy with the temporary move to Reading from the English Premier League outfit. He felt he could develop with the ambitious club and gain valuable first team experience, something which had not been guaranteed at White Hart Lane. The player said on the club’s official website:
“It is amazing to be here.
It’s an unbelievable set-up and I just got a great feeling from the club after playing here for Preston at the end of last season.”
Khumalo joined Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window of 2011, for a fee of £1.5 million from local side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Supersport-United-c40634. He spent a short while at Preston North End on an emergency deadline day loan move, making six appearances for them. He now leaves North End for Reading, where he plans to spend at least a season.
