http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ledley-King-c21859, the Tottenham Hotspur defender, admitted the Spurs were confident of securing a spot for the UEFA Champions League, especially after they had made such a strong start to the 2011-2012 season.
After a loss in their opening two matches of the season, Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed a decent run in the Premier League. They are currently at third place in the Premier League table, above rivals http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786, who currently occupy fourth place.
Below Chelsea sit http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, teams Tottenham Hotspur currently do not need to concern themselves with. However, they do need to concern themselves with the league leaders Manchester City and second place Manchester United.
King was certain the Spurs would be able to retain a spot in the top four, which would mean qualification for the Champions League next season. The English defender was sure they would be able to do so, especially with the form they had been in recently.
King said while speaking to reporters:
“We'll definitely be disappointed if we don't finish in the top four from here. We are more than capable of that with the squad we've got.
Confidence is very high after the past three months.”
According to King, his side were not under too much pressure as compared to the rest of the teams competing for a place in the top four. He felt their terrific form had guaranteed a good run and 35 points from the first 16 games had left many surprised.
King claimed:
“Maybe the pressure is not on us as much as some of the other teams. I think we've surprised a few with the 35 points we've got from our first 16 games.
We're enjoying ourselves but we've got to keep this going for another 22 games.”
Keeping the injuries and suspensions in mind, King revealed the Spurs had a decent squad which could survive the remainder of the season. In the meantime, he was just pleased to be in a good position during the Christmas and New Year’s festive period.
He continued:
“I don't remember going into Christmas in such a good position, especially with the point’s tally that we've managed to get. It's been great so far.”
