Tottenham Hotspur defender Ledley King determined to feature for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 in 2012 Euros
Tottenham Hotspur skipper and defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ledley-King-c21859 revealed he had no intention of giving up on his international career just as yet. The 31-year-old defender was still very much hopeful of participating for England in the 2012 European Championships despite
his chronic knee injury.
After the 2010 World Cup in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-c13152 Capello. However, King is aiming for a comeback for the upcoming 2012 Euro, where he hopes to make a final appearance before he can consider retirement.
King said while speaking to reporters:
“I haven't given up. It's in the back of my mind but it's getting further and further away.”
Because of his chronic knee injury, King can only play once a week and that too without the training the rest of the squad has to go through. While Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp may be willing to take a risk with him, Capello may not.
During the World Cup, which could very well be his last appearance for England, King played the first 45 minutes against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/United-States-c3034 before picking up an injury which ruled him out for the rest of the tournament, where England once again failed to perform.
He admitted:
“I realise, going to the World Cup, how difficult it can be for a person in my position who doesn't train.
Going away with England you really need time on the pitch, you need to gel and bond as a group.”
King admitted he understood the manager’s hesitance in selecting him for any upcoming tournament but at the same time felt he had proved himself with the Spurs. His presence has earned them 19 points out of a possible 21, a very good indicator of his contribution
to the team.
King continued:
“It's difficult for me to do that and, to be fair to the manager, (general manager) http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Franco-c14050 Baldini and the other staff were great to let me do what I've been doing at Tottenham.
But it's a lot easier here where I know everyone and everyone understands. It's a difficult situation.”
