Tottenham Hotspur striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roman-Pavlyuchenko-c31639’s agent has confirmed that the Spurs want to extend his client's contract after rumours that he was heading towards a White Hart Lane exit.
Pavlyuchenko made it clear he wished to leave Tottenham Hotspur after lack of first team playing opportunities but the club had the option of extending his current contract, which they have done so. This means the Russian striker will have to stay with the Spurs for another season even though his contract was going to expire at the end of the season.
His agent said whole speaking to reporters:
“Tottenham, headed by Mr [http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879] Levy, had the option of extending his contract, and they have done so.
They informed UEFA, FIFA and the English FA that they have extended the contract by a year. This happened about two or three months ago, so this is already quite old news.”
In a desperate attempt to retain the services of the striker, Tottenham Hotspur have resorted to such methods. The striker, who has made just 12 appearances this season in all competitions, will be now forced to remain with the London side for another season. This means he will have to brace himself for yet another season without first team football.
This will come as highly disappointing news for Pavlyuchenko, who was linked with a return to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Russia-c2991. The likes of Spartak Moscow and other top European clubs had previously shown interest but with Tottenham Hotspur not willing to sell, Pavlyuchenko will have no choice but to remain with Tottenham Hotspur. The details of the contract extension are not yet certain but it seems the club has the power to retain the player for the time being.
The striker made his debut with Dynamo Stavropol, moving on to Rotor Volgograd in 2000. It was in 2003 he moved to Spartak Moscow, where he remained until 2008. In 187 appearances in the League, the prolific striker scored an amazing 109 goals. Unfortunately for him, he was unable to recreate his form at Tottenham Hotspur, managing just 21 goals in 78 appearances in the Premier League.
