Tottenham Hotspur eying to land Newcastle United’s striker Andrew Carroll
English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur are eying to land Newcastle United striker Andrew Carroll. Carroll seems to be unsettled at St. James Park after his off-the-pitch controversies; The Toon striker was fined by a local
court when he was found guilty against charges of assaulting his former girlfriend.
However, his heroics on the football pitch have attracted top clubs of the country. Tottenham Hotspur have been reported to lead the pack among other Premier League sides including Arsenal, Liverpool FC and Manchester United.
The Spurs seem to be very interested in the English striker and are lining up a bid worth £10 million. Harry Redknapp is also ready to offer Robbie Keane in addition to the transfer sum to Newcastle in an act to sweeten the bid.
Tottenham are currently looking to recruit a forward who can play at his own upfront. Current Spurs strikers Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Robbie Keane are ineffective while playing alone and need a supporting
player to operate with them at the top of the pitch.
Carroll has scored 7 goals in 13 appearances for The Magpies and has also earned a deserved senior team call-up by England manager Fabio Capello.
The 21-year-old might be tempted to take his career to a new high by signing for a club currently playing in the UEFA Champions League. The prospect of playing in Europe might be the crucial factor in the striker’s decision to
make a move to north-London.
Tottenham have also been linked with a number of forwards from across Europe including Brazilian Luis Fabiano and Frenchman Karim Benzema. Andrew scored the winner for the Magpies against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium after he
dispatched the ball into the net from a towering header. After the game, Arsene Wenger admitted that Carroll had “something special.”
Wenger said, “I’m convinced Capello will have a look at him. I believe he will be good enough to play for England. He has a kind of presence. It’s not down to me to select the player, but he has something special and he is efficient.
I have been highly impressed by him.”
Merseyside club Liverpool are also among the interested buyers and would consider a move for the 6ft. 4in. forward in order to strengthen their attack. Manager Roy Hodgson has hinted of adding a forward among his ranks who can
share Fernando Torres’ goal-scoring burden.
Meanwhile, Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson is also considering luring the young striker to Old Trafford. Fergie has expressed concerns over the injuries to Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney, and would love to have a goal-scoring
forward in the shape of Andy Carroll.
