Tottenham Hotspur insist Luka Modric not for sale as they line up Lyon’s Miralem Pjanic as a replacement
Tottenham Hotspur assistant manager Kevin Bond recently revealed that the London side would consider parting ways with their prized midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857 if the right price was offered. The Spurs have so far rejected two bids by London rivals Chelsea, but
the Blues are expected to make an improved bid of £30 million for the 25-year-old Croatian playmaker.
While Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp and club chairman http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 met that price, the
Blues could welcome Modric to Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window.
Bond said while speaking to reporters:
“We desperately don’t want to lose him, but every player has a price.”
However, only hours later Bond retracted his statement, claiming his comments could be misinterpreted and that the Spurs were not interested in selling Modric, no matter what the price.
Bond said:
“For the purpose of clarification and in case my comments this morning inadvertently mislead anyone, the clubs position on Modric is quite clear – we have no intention of selling him.”
Despite still claiming that they did not want to sell Modric, Tottenham Hotspur have been eyeing possible replacements to bring in for the versatile midfielder. One of the players to have been linked with a move to White Hart Lane is http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Miralem-Pjanic-c25984. The
21-year-old Bosnia international has caught the eye of the English Premier League side and they are currently making enquiries about the midfielder.
However, Lyon manager Remi Garde is determined to retain the services of the talented youngster. He insisted he was not looking to sell the Bosnian midfielder despite rumours that Tottenham Hotspur were willing to offer as much as £10 million for the 21-year-old.
Garde said in an interview:
“Mira to leave? I don’t think so. I am not sure if the President has received any genuine proposals. But I rely on him very much.”
Pjanic signed with Lyon in the summer of 2008 on a long-term five year deal from Ligue 2 side Metz for a fee of €8 million. He has made a total of 116 appearances for the Ligue 1 side in all competitions, scoring 15 goals and providing 13 assists.
