Tottenham Hotspur’s boss, Harry Redknapp, has expressed disappointment over Rafael van der Vaart’s behaviour after the midfielder was substituted in the club’s recent goalless draw against West Ham United at White Hart Lane. The former Real Madrid player
left the ground and went directly into the tunnel without even waiting on the bench to see the rest of the match- leaving Harry Redknapp fuming with anger.
Redknapp said, “I don't like that. I'll talk to him about it. If you are part of a team you should stay to watch the rest of the game. The fans have come to watch the team play so if you are a player you should stay to watch the game, you're a part of it.
You make substitutions and it's difficult [to decide] who you take off. They all did well, Rafa [Van der Vaart] did nothing wrong. I just thought I'd get some fresh legs on”.
Rafael van der Vaart, who joined Tottenham from Real Madrid on a deadline day of the summer transfer window of 2010, has become an influential figure at White Hart Lane.
Despite the plethora of impressive performance put by the Dutchman, he was substituted for the 17th time this season in the last match against the Hammers.
Tottenham hopes of finishing in the top four of the Barclays Premier League dented a huge blow after Harry Redknapp’s men failed to find a breakthrough against West Ham United and had to settle for a point.
The North Londoners started the game with a more attacking approach against West Ham United and dominated the play by enjoying most time on the ball. Spurs were unfortunate not to find themselves on the score-sheet despite hitting the word works three times.
Harry Redknapp hailed his team performance but claimed that he was not happy with the result.
He said, “I thought we played well today. I was really pleased. We passed the ball great and made loads of chances, we just couldn't get the break in front of goal today. We hit the woodwork a few times. It was just one of those matches. We were unlucky
in front of goal but I couldn't have asked for much more. I thought we were excellent”.
Moreover, Harry Redknapp also praised West Ham United’s impressive performance at White Hart Lane and claimed that the Hammers worked their socks off to get a point.
After a draw against West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur is still fifth in the standings with 49 points to their name out of 29 fixtures.
