Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp believes road to Champions League is getting tougher
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp believes his team has been handed the toughest possible UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie against the nine-time champions Real Madrid.
Redknapp feels encouraged by a frightening tie rather than being discouraged by it, as he feels that his team has what it needs to beat the Spanish giants.
The Spurs topped the Group A ahead of Italian Champions http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Twente-c39233. Tottenham were drawn against current Serie A leaders AC Milan for the round of 16 tie and the London side beat them
1-0 on aggregate basis.
The Lilywhites will be looking to make their first ever competition memorable by beating the Los Blancos in the quarter-finals, as they gear up for the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu in two weeks time.
“We’ve had hard draws, all the way back to the Astroturf pitch against Young Boys in the qualifiers – then Inter Milan and AC Milan,” said Redknapp. “It’s been a great achievement by the players to do what they’ve done. Nobody wanted http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604, but you can’t
dictate who you draw. Real Madrid and their players are not very far behind Barca,” said the Tottenham manager.
He added, “We’ve also got the toughest side of the draw in the semi-finals, [the winners will face Barcelona or Shakhtar Donetsk], although we could have had Barcelona in the quarter-finals, I suppose. The winners of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and Manchester United have got
a great chance of getting to the final, haven’t they?”
The 64-year-old said that he is looking forward to playing against the big teams. Despite the fact that his players have not played in the Champions League enough, Redknapp believes they have played against the top international teams like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011, so it will
help them in performing at the big stage.
Redknapp has huge respect for Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho but he said that it is his players who are more important. The former Portsmouth manager said that Mourinho is the Special One because he gets the best out of his players. He also lauded him
for his work with Porto, Chelsea and Inter Milan.
