Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp revealed he found it hard to believe that Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti was unsure of his future at Stamford Bridge. It has been rumored that the Italian manager will be sacked at the end of the season after having
failed to lead Chelsea to silverware this season.
After a highly successful first season with Chelsea, where Ancelotti led the Blues to their first ever domestic double; English Premier League crown and the FA Cup, the Italian has failed to recreate his success in his second season with the club. Having
been eliminated from the cup competitions, the Blues now have a slight chance of retaining the Premier League title.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has not dealt to kindly with managers who have not delivered in the past and he is expected to do the same with Ancelotti. The Russian billionaire is apparently already on the look-out for a replacement for Ancelotti, someone
who will promise to bring trophies to Stamford Bridge, and more importantly the UEFA Champions League.
However, Redknapp did not feel a single disappointing season was a good enough reason to sack Ancelotti. The former AC Milan manager is considered one of the best managers in the world, having won all the major trophies with various clubs. The Spurs boss
felt the former Italy international deserved job security, especially with a CV as impressive as his.
“When Carlo Ancelotti led Chelsea to the Double last season, it should have kept him safe for at least the next three years. Instead he finds his position under increasing speculation by the day - and I have to say that's a disgrace,” said Redknapp.
Redknapp went on to talk about Ancelotti’s impressive past record, “This is a fellow who had an outstanding playing career and, incredibly, surpassed even that when he went into management. He's won the Champions League, Premier League, Serie A, Italian
Cups, the FA Cup - you name it, Carlo's done it.”
Ancelotti started his managerial career with Reggiana in 1995, leading the side to a Serie A promotion in his first and only season with them. He then went on to manage Parma, leading them to a Champions League spot in his first season and a UEFA Cup spot
in his second season. His next stop was Juventus, with whom he finished runner-up to the Serie A title, twice.
He took over AC Milan in 2001, and in his nine years with the Serie A giants, has led them to two Champions League and UEFA Super Cups in 2003 and 2007. He also led them to the Coppa Italia in 2003 and went on to win the Serie A the next season, along with
the Supercoppa Italiana. Last but not least, his side were the FIFA Club World Cup winners in the 2007 season.
