Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp hoping for a miracle against Real Madrid: UCL news
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp is refusing to give up the chase for the UEFA Champions League crown, saying that his side can still overcome Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
However, Redknapp knows it will be nothing short of a miracle should Spurs manage to pull it off.
Real Madrid are almost sure to progress to the semi-finals, having thrashed Spurs 4-0 in the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu two weeks ago. It has left the Barclays Premier League side with a mountain to climb in the second leg of the tie. If Spurs are
to keep their title hopes alive, they will have to overcome the four-goal deficit, something that has been deemed impossible by even the most optimistic of Tottenham fans.
However, manager Harry Redknapp believes that his side can still progress to the last four of the Champions League.
Speaking ahead of the match, Redknapp said, "We are in a situation where everyone feels the tie is over but we know we are a good team and can play well here at White Hart Lane. We know it will take a miracle but miracles can happen and we have to believe
that we can give it our best shot tomorrow and if we play very well, you never know what will happen."
He added, "We have to turn in a good performance and see if we can win the game and we will see where it takes us from there."
Redknapp has the right to be optimistic. He has seen his side fight back from hopeless situations already this season. Spurs came from 3-0 down against Young Boys in the qualifying stages to ensure their place in the Champions League this season.
Perhaps more impressively, Tottenham fought back from 4-0 down against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan at the San Siro to take the match up to 4-3, but they fell just short of securing a famous draw against the Champions League holders. Now, Redknapp wants his side to show
that same fighting spirit against Real Madrid, but perhaps the Spurs boss will have to come to grips with the fact that their European dream is over.
Tottenham are currently in fifth place in the Premier League standings, and their place in next season's Champions League competition looks unlikely.
