Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp plays up importance of UEFA Champions League
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has played up the importance of retaining the club’s UEFA Champions League status. The Spurs boss believes that it will be a ‘bonus’ if his side manages to break into the top four by the end of the current Barclays Premier League season.
Spurs are currently fifth in the League, two points adrift of fourth placed Manchester City. It seems as though the final Champions League spot will once again be contested by the same two teams as last season. Tottenham edged out the Sky Blues in last season’s race, but manager Harry Redknapp knows that his side will be hard-pressed to repeat their heroics.
Now that Spurs have had a taste of Europe’s biggest club competition, it will be difficult for them to compete with the same passion in the relatively tame Europa League. It is something Harry Redknapp is well aware of, and he cannot stress enough, how important it is for his side to secure a place in next season’s Champions League.
Speaking on the matter, the Tottenham boss said, “Getting in that top four is a bonus. Every year the same four teams got into the Champions League apart from the one year that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809."
He added, "Now, suddenly, there's Man City and they want to be in there every year too. Getting in the top four is going to be harder and harder every season. We're in a position where we still have a chance. It's going to be tight but we have to keep going.”
Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur will face each other in the Premier League on 10th May. That match could potentially decide which of the two clubs will get to compete in Europe's elite club competition next season. However, looking at the recent results of both teams, it seems as if the Sky Blues will edge out their rivals this time around.
Tottenham currently have 54 points, while City are just ahead of them with 56.
