Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp wants cash for summer 2011 transfer window – EPL news
Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has said that he is going to ask club chairman Daniel Levy for cash to spend in the summer 2011 transfer window.
The Spurs boss feels he needs some top quality players in order to challenge for top honours and regular UEFA Champions League action.
Tottenham had a decent debut season in the Champions League as they were able to reach the last eight of the competition where they were eventually defeated by Spanish giants Real Madrid.
It seems the club is heading in the right direction as they are in contention to qualify for Europe’s top competition again. However, Tottenham need to overhaul Manchester City in order to accomplish that feat.
At present, the Citizens have a two-point advantage over the Spurs and with six round of games remaining in the season for both sides, the battle to cement the fourth spot in the Premier League table is far from over.
Redknapp believes that the Champions League qualification is his side’s top priority but in order to ensure long-term European status, he needs to boost his squad even if the Spurs fail to qualify for Europe next season.
He said, “There shouldn't be two transfer scenarios, If you want to get into the Champions League again you have to keep improving. People say If we get in the Champions League we'll buy some great players but if you don't buy some great players you won't
get in the Champions League. That's how it works.”
Many pundits believe that the Spurs may lose some of their star players if they cannot cement a Champions League place next season as the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857 have been linked with moves elsewhere.
Redknapp claims he is hoping to hang on to his prized assets and further dismisses the notion that it will be difficult for the Spurs to attract big name players if they do not qualify for the Champions League next season.
The 64-year-old added that quality players can still be brought to White Hart Lane via decent financial incentives.
Tottenham’s transfer target list includes the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sergio-c33030 Aguero.
Meanwhile, the Spurs will be looking to collect maximum points as they host West Bromwich Albion in their next Premier League fixture on April 23, 2011.
