Tottenham Hotspur manager delighted to make Champions League progress
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp says he is delighted after leading the English Premier League side into the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League in their first appearance in the competition.
Spurs moved into the first knockout phase of the tournament after defeating Gerrman outfit Werder Bremen 3-0 at White Hart Lane on Wednesday 24 November. Younes Kaboul put the home side ahead after just six minuted before Luka Modric doubled the advantage
on the stroke of half-time. England international Peter Crouch then wrapped up the straightforward win with a strike in the 79th minute.
However, Spurs still have work to do if they are to finish as group winners as defending European champions Inter Milan, who have also qualified, defeated Dutch champions FC Twente 1-0 on the same night.
Redknapp was not deterred by that fact after Spurs ensured that their European adventure would continue beyond Christmas.
He told the BBC that: "It's fantastic for us (to get into the knockout stages). It was a difficult group when drawn. Overall, I think we have done great and played ever so well. We came in at half-time two-up without really having clicked into gear. We could
have had four or five but I'm delighted with the lads.
“We want to win the last game. You want that top spot if you can get it. It looks like most of the big teams are going to finish top of their groups and its important so we have to go to Twente and give it a go."
Spurs' last game in he group stage will take place against Twente in Holland on 7 December and a win there will see Redknapp's men top the group and avoid playing the likes of Chelsea, Barcelona and Real Madrid at the next stage.
