Tottenham Hotspur manager urges board to spend big in January
Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp says he wants the club's board to spend big in January to help him make a charge for the English Premier League title.
Spurs came from two goals behind to beat then second-placed Arsenal 3-2 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday 20 November.
As a result, Redknapp has added confidence that his side can challenge main contenders Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal to win the league title, but has called for chairman Daniel Levy's help to aid the players on their way to silverware.
Redknapp told The Daily Mirror, "It’s there for someone to pull off a surprise. I am looking to buy in January. We need to tweak it to finish it off. I think Tottenham have got a championship in them in the next few years. I genuinely feel that,
why shouldn’t I? Just because we haven’t won it for a while doesn’t mean Chelsea, Man United or Arsenal will carry on winning it. Why can’t someone else win it?
"We’re in the Champions League. This club is in a position now to keep pushing on because this title is wide open now. There’s no Barcelona or Real Madrid that are miles ahead up there. Chelsea, Man United and Arsenal are probably the best sides, but its
getting closer between them and the other sides now. It’s really closing up."
Spurs made a remarkable comeback against an Arsenal side that went two goals up before half-time through Samir Nasri and Marouane Chamakh, but the Gunners took their foot off the gas after the break and Spurs won away to Arsenal for the first time in 17
years through strikes by Gareth Bale, Rafael van der Vaart (penalty) and Younes Kaboul.
The White Hart Lane club have returned to sixth place following the victory, and are just now just six points behind leaders Chelsea.
