Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Gareth Bale wins the Professional Footballers Association award: EPL News
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gareth-Bale-c14422 has won the Professional Footballers Association (PFA) Premier League award for the 2010/11 season.
Arsenal’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Samir-Nasri-c32360 finished runner-up, while Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez clinched the 3rd position.
The Welshman has had a wonderful season and has surprised everyone with his array of skills. The 21-year-old played a huge role to guide Tottenham to the quarterfinals of UEFA Champions League in the current campaign. The midfielder scored a fantastic hat-trick
against Italian Champions, Inter Milan, in the group stages of the Champions League and almost embarked an amazing comeback for the Lilywhites after they went 4-0 down in the first-half.
The former Southampton star was also nominated for the Young Player of the year award, which was picked by Arsenal’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jack-Wilshere-c17463. Bale is delighted to win the award and join the list of some of the great names, who have previously won the award.
Talking to the reporters Bale said, "I am more than delighted really. It is a massive award and it is a great honour to receive, especially from other fellow professionals. It is an honour really when you look at the names that have won it before and it
just makes you go 'wow' really."
"There haven't been too many Welshman to have won the trophy but it is great and it is great for me personally. And it is not just for me, it is for all my team-mates that have helped me through the season and it is kind of for everyone really," added the 21-year-old.
Bale joined the Spurs in May 2007 from Southampton and had to struggle in his first two seasons with the club. The midfielder could not live up to his expectations in the early part of his Spurs career and manager, Harry Redknapp, almost lost patience with
him and decided to sell him off.
Now, Bale is the first name on Tottenham’s starting eleven and is a pivotal figure in their future plans. Despite being troubled by constant injury problems since the turn of year, Bale has still managed to make 38 appearances in the current campaign and
has scored 11 goals so far.
