Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Luka Modric advises team not to be overconfident before Chelsea clash
The Tottenham Hotspur attacking midfielder Luka Modric has come out and cautioned Spurs that they should be wary of the defending champions Chelsea despite their current streak of defeats.
The two London teams from South are scheduled to meet at White Hart Lane. Modric, in his warning, stated that his teammates should not be overconfident of their success and should play while showing respect to the Blues; however,
they should aim for nothing less than a victory.
The Italian manager of Chelsea, Carlo Ancelotti has informed that his team is indeed struggling to find form and has lost its confidence. The team that was going for the undefeated record of ‘Invincibles’ and seemed to have taken
the number 1 spot on the table till the end of the season are now performing for the worst.
Although they are still considered to be in the title race, but they have got the curse of losing 6 matches after which no Premier League team has ever won the Trophy. At the moment, Chelsea have just managed to win the last of
their six matches.
The Londoners were able to thwart Chelsea on the last two occasions when they visited their home, White Hart Lane. On the impressive record, Modric stated that he and his team are eager to go and complete the hat trick by making
it three consecutive wins.
The Croatian international stated that although Whites aren’t afraid of playing the Blues, but they must respect them.
"We need to give them [Chelsea] massive respect but, at the same time, we believe in our strength and quality and we are all determined to beat them at home for the third time in row,” he told the club’s official match day programme.
He continued, “We know they are a dangerous side full of great players, unbelievable players. When we get out on the pitch we need to play our game, to fight for every ball, to play with confidence and try to beat them again.
We are in good form and we fear no-one at home.”
Spurs have shown amazing form since last season when English manager Harry Redknapp took charge of them. Their impressive form has not just been in the English format, the English Premier League; they have qualified for the Last 16 stage of the Champions League
and have achieved that while being on top of the table.
Their group had top-notch teams from the world including the defending champions of the tournament, Inter Milan. The Italian outfit also happens to be the other team that qualified for the next round.
The group also includes the likes of Werder Bremen from Bundesliga in Germany and FC Twente, Netherlands. Modric is all praise about the efforts of his team, but he advised his team not to fall for complacency.
He commented on the issue saying, “Okay, sure, they have some problems at the moment but that means nothing.” He added,
“If we think we will beat them or we are favourites then it's the wrong attitude.”
